“Shiromani Akalo Dal MLA’s councillor nephew kills hotelier’s son”

JALANDHAR: City was shocked by murder of a hotelier’s young son by SAD MLA Sarabjit Makkar’s nephew Ram Simran Singh Makkar alias Prince, who is also a SAD councillor, half past midnight in posh Model Town area.

Victim Gurkirat Singh Sekhon alias Gikki (31) and Prince were childhood friends as they had studied together first in St Joesph’s Convent School and then in Apeejay School.

Victim was only son of his parents and had two little kids – younger daughter just eight months old while elder son is two years old. It is learnt that their friendship had turned sour a few months back over some dispute and heartburning was simmering between them.

According to deceased’s father Rajvir Singh Sekhon he was waiting for his son and he was on the way to their hotel from his residence in Garden Colony area to look for his son when he saw the Prince Makkar, Sunny Sachdeva, Prince Narula and Jasdeep Jassu (who is son of another hotelier of the city) in a scuffle with his son outside Baba Rasoi and then Makkar fired at him.

He said that he with the help of others rushed his son to a hospital but he died on the spot.

His father said that while they were fast friends since childhood the relations strained between them after Makkar managed a police raid at their Hotel Sekhon Grand. After that both the sides had been exchanging sarcastic comments and Gikki had told Makkar that latter should nor stoop so low. Makkars have also recently started a hotel in the city.

Police have booked the four under section 302 and 34 of IPC. ADCP (Crime) Rajpal Sandhu said that they were conducting raids to nab the accused. Postmortem was conducted at Civil Hospital by a panel of doctors and this was also video recorded.

According to Gikki’s family he would be cremated on Friday as they were waiting for his US based in laws.
